103 Bike Ride 2017 Report
Stutterheim Round Table 103 once again held our annual Bike Ride on the weekend of 21st and 22nd April 2017. We started planning for this event 6 months in advance. This has become one of our biggest events that we host, and is only getting bigger and better every year, with this year being the 12th time.
This year we tried something different, the past 11 years we normally had our “big” night on the Friday evening and a bit of a quiet night on the Saturday evening. Well due to the growth of this project we took a bit of a gamble and swopped the evenings around, Friday evening was a quiet but fun night with DJ Shane Kreush who played music in our beer tent for the riders that came to camp and spend the evening at our event, which gave all the riders and tablers a good night’s rest before the big day.
Little did we know that this was the calm before the storm!! Saturday morning we needed to be back at the Stutterheim Country Club by 7AM that morning to begin all our duties for the Ride itself.
The bikes started arriving Saturday morning from all directions and once again we attracted over 300 riders to come participate in our event. The ride started at 9AM and the last bike out left at 1PM. There were a few broken down bikes which our marshals were able to help and bring back for us, as well as a few injuries that the Alderson Ambulances Team assisted with. We got a lot of good feedback from the riders this year which only will make our bike ride bigger and better for next year! After the last bike had returned from our course we then had a busy afternoon in our entertainment tent where we held our lucky draw prize giving that took quite some time to get threw due to the amount of prizes that were kindly donated to us. The Saturday evening entertainment arrived shortly afterwards which was the Silhouette 3 band, so while they were busy setting up all of their equipment, all the tablers took turns to go home and have a shower and get ready for a long night ahead after a full day of marshalling, selling tickets, preparing all the food and ensuring that everything was going off well throughout the day. The Silhouette 3 band started playing and was enjoyed by all. Dj Shane Kreush again played for us for the rest of the evening till early hours of the morning. Once the evening had come to an end the tablers then went home to get some much needed rest before returning early Sunday morning to do a clean-up.
An event of this magnitude is not possible without the generous help of our sponsors. Each one will be thanked individually, but I would like to single out a couple. Firstly, Stutterheim Garage 24/7 Towing & Shop for being our main sponsor. To The Manderson Hotel who accommodated our artists on Friday night. Alan Leicester from Alderson Ambulances I would like to thank him for all they did for us. We need an ambulance at the venue and these guys were once again and always professional and helpful at all times. The biggest thank you must go out to the land owners. Rance Timbers, AFC, Amahlathi Municipality, Mrs Balindela. They all allowed us again to put over 300 motor bikes through their properties in some of the most spectacular sceneries that some have ever seen. Another big thank you to all our sponsors for providing all the free food on Saturday evening without any of your help this would not have been possible, Excelsior Butchery for the 350 pieces of sausage, Triple Streams Supermarket for all of the rolls and to our sponsors for supplying us with sheep for our spits. Another big thank you goes to Cuan Klase for all of his help and input on the bike loop. To the rest of our sponsors we thank you just as much for all of your help it is greatly appreciated.
Thanks to the SPCA committee who provided the food for Friday evening, Saturday morning until the afternoon, which was enjoyed by everyone. Also to our Table Ladies who worked through the weekend providing meals and selling all the tickets on the weekend, thank you guys. Round Table cannot run without our Legs.
Lastly, thanks to all Round Table 103 members who all pull together and make a project of this size a pleasure. All proceeds raised from this event will go towards local charities.
Our next bike ride will be held on the 21st April 2018, and will be a ride not to be missed.
